Partnerships have been formed, especially as of late. A joint effort by several different user groups and advocacy groups has allowed the group to become recipients of National Wilderness Grant money to improve the River to River Trail that is a part of the American Discovery Trail.

River To River Trail Society is dedicated to the support of hiking both along the River to River Trail and through out the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. The society was founded by Mr. John O’Dell in 1991

Friends of the Shawnee National Forest is a not-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible outdoor recreation, tourism, environmental education, and land stewardship on the Shawnee National Forest.
